The Australian Government support small business, there are a number of organisations who can provide business owners with assistance and advice.

This is a really great site set up by the Australian Government, purely designed to help provide advice and guidance to businesses both established and those in the process of establishing.  This is a fantastic site to obtain direction and best of all its free.

www.smallbusiness.gov.au
Smallbusiness.gov.au,  provides general information on starting and operating a small or home-based business.   This web site is great as it is purely developed for the “at home business” and contains information on this topic only, whereas a lot of the following resources tend to cater for small and large businesses as well.

www.bep.gov.au
BEP offers simple and convenient access to all the government information, transactions and services you need to  effectively start and operate your business. It’s a whole-of-government service providing essential information on planning, starting and running your business.

www.search.asic.gov.au
To register a business name you need to check that someone else hasn't already taken it! A good start is to visit the ASIC's on line name search.

The Australian Institute for Commercialization (AIC) is a national, not-for-profit company dedicated to enhancing Australia’s ability to commercialize its research and development (R&D) in the global marketplace.  The AIC works nationally, providing assistance to industries performing R&D and innovation, through a network of state-based representatives.

The Business Enterprise Centers Australia, (BECA) provides assistance to micro and small businesses.  They have field officers across Australia.  The primary focus of BEC Australia Incorporated is to facilitate the integration of the BEC network, lift its profile and actively market its capabilities to national corporations and governments.
