How you can start a small business in Australia

Where did it all begin?

Sonia anticipated when she entered motherhood she would find it difficult to return to the workforce, to her role as an accountant. She was more than aware she would need to supplement her the family income in order to stay at home. In 2000, Sonia started, Sublime Photography, specialising in wedding photography. Over the course of the following five years Sonia successfully grew Sublime Photography, including three fully booked seasons.

Sonia found budding Mum entrepreneurs often asked her the same inquisitive questions, all wanting to know and understand, “how they could start a small business”, “how to come up with an idea for a small business”.  Ultimately Sonia decided to impart the secrets to her success, her expert knowledge, tips and tricks to successfully starting a business in the best seller Show Mummy the Money.

Following on from the success of Show Mummy the Money, Sonia was commissioned by John Wiley & Sons to write a follow on book. In Sept 2007 Raising a Business  -  A womans No Non-sense guide to growing a small business was released, featuring the wisdom, advice and insights from more than 20 successful and known Australian businesswomen.

In Arpil 2008, Sonia self published her own magazine, titled Show Mummy the Money, available on line and through news agencies Australia wide.

Sonia's Professional Background 

Sonia Williams is a Mum of two and has worked as a qualified Certified Practising Accountant (CPA). She has worked in all areas of business: public, private sectors, manufacturing and government and has worked for small and large prestigious accounting firms. She has held positions with well-known worldwide manufacturers and worked for a large Victorian government organization. Finally and most importantly she has established her own successful small business. She knows what it takes to start a business, the common mistakes made when starting a business, and how you can avoid such errors.
