How it all began - Natural Diva Mineral Makeup

I have dedicated my whole world to raising my beautiful twin boys, a new chapter in all of our lives had begun. My boys are now self sufficient, confident, goal orientated sensitive young men. Twin one was off to Melbourne to go to university, and the Twin two was working and living out of home waiting to be called up for his fulltime army career. I had recently met and married the best man in the world and I had just opened my own day spa, where I make a lot of natural products myself such as soaps, face creams, body lotions, etc and wanted to branch out to something bigger when our whole world was turned upside down.

Twin two had just been diagnosed with a brain tumour. In the horrible mess of trying to deal with something like this we had to pack up from regional NSW and move to Sydney for a few weeks. While I watched my precious child cling to his life I was driven from within to do something that would guarantee his future financially and be financially prepared to afford the best medical care just incase we had to go through this again. In an instant Natural Diva was born, I truly had a light bulb moment.

Natural Diva is here today because of the inspiration I have drawn from my boys. There were times when things were very tough, life changing, unbelievable, but I knew I just had to keep going, one foot in front of the other. As twin two recovered his strength, Natural Diva picked up strength.

There have been absolutely 1,000’s of hours of research put into this project, and we are very proud of the outcome. Absolute passion keeps the engine going! We firmly believe we have created the very best Australian made and owned mineral makeup line. We are very excited that Natural Diva allows women to have a high quality chemical free alternative to conventional makeup that is competitively priced. We are very proud of the fact that we donate $1 from every product sale to The National Breast Cancer Foundation. It is our way of contributing to a very worthy cause.

My advice for all mums out there is:

Trust your intuition. If you have an idea, go with it
Make a plan and don’t be afraid, life is too short to remain in neutral
Get your plan up on the wall for you to constantly see
Leave negative internal babble at the door, there is no room for it
Research, research, research
Ask questions of everyone you know and meet
Believe that ANY obstacle can be overcome and just keep going, one foot in front of the other.
Take good and bad criticism and find a positive in everything, even when there doesn’t seem to be a positive, find one! I find it helps to keep the ball rolling, instead of rolling on top of you
Keep you intention clear and honest
Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you feel like you are drowning
Remember what is really important in your world, and count your blessings. My family is the most important thing to me, without them I wouldn’t be the woman I am today.

My day spa eventually had to go, and that was ok. I have what really matters, my son. Natural Diva can be run from home, so I can be right here for my son when he needs me. It doesn’t matter how old your children are, your love for them never falters.

Fiona Dixon established Moment by Moment in February 07. Fiona found the inspiration to start Moment by Moment after prematurely giving birth to her daughter Arlie at 27 weeks 5 days. Fiona found through this traumatic experience and being around other parents facing the same situation, there was not enough information available to support parents with premature babies. Fiona says she found, when she gave birth prematurely, she was unable to find many basic necessities, that are fully assessable by parents of full term babies. Fiona explained she found great difficulty in locating clothing, nappies, keep sakes and so forth. Basic items parents of full term babies take for granted. She also found families and friends of parents of premature babies exhibit a different etiquette towards the arrival of a premature baby. “When you give birth to a baby prematurely, people forget to say congratulations, and there is certainly no baby shower,” says Fiona. Fiona found there was a steep learning curve to climb, she concedes she had to learn, how to properly touch her baby, so not to bring harm to Arlie. She also had to teach her own family and friends on how to approach Arlie, reminding visitors to wash their hands before they physically came into contact with Arlie.

Fiona says as a parent of a premature baby they found the out side world became different; by sharing their journey with other parents of premature babies they found the experience to be a little easier to deal with. Subsequently Fiona established Moment By Moment, to provide parents with vital support and resources required to better equipped parents to understand how to deal with the premature birth of a baby. Fiona says she also stocks the necessary products parents need to cater for the unique needs of their premature baby.

In the initial stages Fiona did a lot of research, seeking products worldwide. She has since sourced creative products to help parents celebrate the journey of their premature baby. Fiona has a supplier of hand painted plates, where both dates can be added, the actual birth date along with the full term birth date. Fiona is also the Australia distributor of the Cuski, a super-soft comforter designed to soothe, calm and reassure baby. Recently Fiona has approached a number of Sydney hospitals with the possibility of running clinical trials on the benefits of the Cuski for premature babies.

Fiona has been able to successfully promote Moment by Moment by placing notices on many sites with free listings, she has also started to write articles on the subject of premature babies, her first published by the Bubhub. Fiona has also designed and placed a number of preeclampsia posters in hospitals, as well as donating prizes and gifts to various fund raising activities associated with premature babies including donating 5% of her proceeds back to charity

Fiona acknowledges she still struggles to update her site. Having starting Moment by Moment with little understanding of website, Fiona says she is learning on the job… is there any other way?
